Community Outreach will be offering free screenings and have registered nurses and other clinical staff on site for counseling. Some other activities include Child CPR, asthma education, burn safety, and information on back and neck pain. Please pass the word along to nannies, housekeepers, and caregivers so we can provide education and resources to those who help take care of our Kids. Education and resources are the key to a healthy lifestyle.
Groups for Parents of Children with Special Needs
All of our children are special but some have extra special needs.
In these groups I will help parents express their particular concerns in raising a child with special needs and help them learn ways to address their needs in a warm and caring environment.
Parents will come together for a series of three, weekly group sessions.
Whether your child has autism or asthma, cerebral palsy or cancer, muscular dystrophy or myotonia, sensory or speech disorders, or any of many other conditions, you face issues that parents of children without an illness or disability do not. In this group you’ll get a chance to discuss those issues with parents facing similar situations and with me as the facilitator. I have many years of experience helping parents of children with illness and disability.
I have a Doctorate in Public Health from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where I taught graduate courses in “Family Management of Illness and Disability.” Additionally I recently helped develop and teach a course in chronic disease management to medical students at Weill-Cornell Medical College.
I have designed and managed programs for families living with neuromuscular diseases while at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and I have served as the executive director of a pediatric oncology program. My passion is helping parents develop strategies to meet the particular needs of their children’s condition. I have raised two fabulous children who have not gone unscathed in the world of medical crises.
Groups are being formed now. For more information contact me at arlene.bregman@gmail.com. Please provide me with your name, e-mail address and phone number. Also, please let me know if you can attend day or evening sessions (or both).
